GENERAL
1. Who needs visa for India. I am of Italian nationality, do I need a visa for Visiting India ?
All foreign nationals except citizens of Bhutan, Nepal, Maldives, need an Indian visa to enter India.
For Maldive nationals, an Indian visa is required ONLY if the stay in India exceeds 90 days
2. What type of visa is required for my travel to India ?
There are different categories of visa for the purpose of visit in India and each category requires different set of documents

3. Can I obtain visa on my arrival in India ?
No. Every foreigner must obtain a visa before departure for India. Consul General of India has the discretion of granting or refusal of any type of visa. Visa must be obtained before making any confirmed travel booking. Indian immigration will not permit anyone to enter India without a valid visa.
Governement of India has introduced to issue Tourist Visa on arrival for citizens of Finland, Japan, Luxembourg, New Zealand, Singapore, Cambodia, Vietnam, Philippines, Laos and Myanmar
4. Where I can apply for visa ?
Consulate General of India, Milan normally does not accept any application for the issue of Indian Visa except for diplomatic passports and certain VIP to the discretion of CGI, Milan.
Residents falling under the jurisdiction of CGI, Milan (Lombardia, Liguria, Veneto, Piemonte, Valle D’Aosta, Trentino-Alto Adige, Friuli-Venezia Giulia and Emilia-Romagna) may apply at:

5. From where I can get the visa application forms and the visa completing instructions ?
The application forms or no more available and the request for any type of visa has to be made only on-line. It is advisable to read carefully the guidelines before you begin the filling of application form. The application form must be completed in correct manner and all the columns should be filled. Any wrong or missing information may lead to delay or denial of visa. For On-line filling please visit the website.
6. What are the Requirements for the accompanying children or other family members ?
All family members and children above the age of 15 years require an individual valid passport and a visa and each traveller will require to fill the visa application forms on-line individually, signed and will pay the applicable fees.
Minor children below the age of 15 years if endorsed in the passport of accompanying parent, does not need a separate visa. At the time of submitting application the applicant has to specify the name/s of the accompanying children indicating the names and dates of birth to be included in the visa. No additional fees are required to be paid.
If the minor children have individual passports, then they will require a visa and will be required to submit the application forms along with the accompanying parent and the prescribed fees. The visa application will be signed by the parents.
Children travelling alone will require to have their individual passports and will require to follow the same procedure laid down for an adult. The visa application form will be signed by both the parents and they will be required to submit the copy of passport or Identity card bearing the signature for verification.
7. How long it will take to get visa ?
Normally 8 - 10 working days from the date of submission of application to Visa Outsourcing office during the peak seson and 3-4 days during the lean period.
The grant of visa is not guaranteed and issue of the visa is at the complete discretion of CGI office.
The passports with visa stickers can be collected from the Indian Visa Outsourcing Centre, Milan or can be forwarded by India outsourcing Centre through courier service to the applicant address on the payment of extra charges of 20 € for despatch of up to 5 passports in a single consignment.
Italian nationals born out of Italy, Italian nationals who have acquired the Italian citizenship and persons of other nationals which are subject to referral verification may require 8 - 10 working days. In certain cases it may take more time.
The grant of visa is not guaranteed.
8. What are the fees for Visa and Service charges ?
The Consular visa fees are charged on the category of visa and its duration. For details visit the website.
Service charges are fixed for each application independent of type of visa except for an Emergency Visa. For details visit the website.
9. How and where to make payments ?
Presently all the Consular fees and the service charges are collected in cash only together with the dully filled application forms, passports and the other supporting documents at the Indian Visa Outsourcing Centre, Via Marostica 34, Milan. Payment through the credit/debit cards and by bank draft or postal order or remittance from the bank is not accepted.
10. How can I know the status of my Visa application ?
On-line tracking facility is available to monitor the status of visa processing. Visit the website for logging on-lne tracking.
It is advisable to call the Indian Visa Outsourcing Centre for ascertaining the visa status only if the information is not available at the online tracking system after the delivery date indicated on the receipt of payment. For better response give your passport number, name and family name as written in the passport and the reference number.
11. What type of visa is required in case I am transiting India and visiting neighbouring countries and the return flight is from India ?
In case an applicant goes to India and takes a flight to a neighbouring country and return to India for taking return flight to its destination of origin, the applicant will require a Transit Visa or a double/multi entry visa. In case the Applicant’s stay in India for each entry is longer than 72 hours, visa with multi entries will be required.
Transit visas are issued only for 72 hours stay in India and double entry is permitted. For transit visa, a copy of the air ticket showing the details of transit through India having the valid visa for on going country and evidence in case of return to his final destination must be submitted with the visa application at the first instance. Once the visa processing has taken place no changes can be made on the duration and the number of entries on issued visa and for any subsequent changes a fresh visa application with the payment of prescribed fees will be required.
12. Whether my personal presence is required for submitting the Visa application ?
No. Registered service providing agents, tour operators and only authorized persons can submit the applications so long as the documents are properly signed and meet the other requisites for obtaining the visa.
13. I have a valid long term visa on my old passport and now I have a new passport. While travelling should I carry both the old and new passports or should I transfer the visa from an old passport to a new passport ?
For convenience it is advisable to get transferred the valid long term visa from an old passport to a new passport by filling the appropriate application form and by payment of a consular fee of 6 € and service fee of 15 €. Time required is 3 working days from the date of submission of application and passport at the Visa outsourcing Centre, Milan. The endorsement of transfer of long term visa is normally done only at the long term visa issuing Indian mission or Consulate.
14. I have submitted the application and all the necessary fees and now I have changed my mind to visit India. Whether the fees deposited are refundable ?
Consular Visa fees and the service fees once received are not refundable even if the visa is delayed or refused or the application is withdrawn.
15. I intend visiting one of the following areas: Sikkim, Bhutan, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Nagaland. Do I need special permission/permit ?
For Sikkim a special endorsement is required on the Indian visa. The request must be clearly made before applying for the tourist visa. No additional fees are charged.
The Andaman & Nicobar islands and Nagaland are restricted areas and the normal tourist visa is not sufficient and a special Restricted/Protected Area permit is required. The permit can be obtained after arrival in India from the Ministry of Home Affairs or from Foreigners Regional Registration Office ( FRRO).
16. I am a foreign national residing in Italy. Is there special requirement to get an Indian Visa ?

17. Is my visa extendable or convertible in India ?
The tourist visa is not extendable and non-convertible into any other type of visa
in India. X type and EV visas are extendable in India.
